About Us

Community Works is a faith-based community development organization (501c3) serving the Homestead/North Forest area of NE Houston. This under-resourced North Forest community is about 70% black with median income of $27,000 and 66% have high school education or less. In 2015, the community had a 40% high school drop-out rate.

Community Works has operated programs for at-risk youth that are impacting 150 kids in the community each year through meals, mentorship, tutoring and life skills training. We empower parents and adults in the community through workforce development training workshops.

We have also provided neighborhood revitalization services after Hurricane Harvey that supported nearly 10,000 families and COVID-19 recovery support for 6400 families.

Our other area of focus is economic revitalization and we have launched a new program where we are now actively coaching entrepreneurs in the community to start businesses that provide local employment and economic improvement. This new business accelerator intends to provide co-working and creative studio space for these entrepreneurs to receive coaching and develop their businesses.
